A funny finals week story

So last week being finals week, something was bound to happen that caused a minor panic attack. So here's what happened.

On Tuesday morning, after my first exam, I was hanging out in Gabbi's room because it was early and I had lots of time to spare. As she was studying chemistry, she was reading parts outloud, and Ilistened as I had nothing better to do. Being tired, I fell asleep, but it was in no way intentional. Eventually I woke up and realized that Gabbi was also asleep. Upon looking at my phone, I found out that it was 11:44. In ASMS world, we have to be in our rooms at 11:45. My first thought was immediately that I should return to my room. Then I thought that I had slept through my Spanish exam. Then I was very confused as to why the sun was up so late at night.

I will wait now as you realize the humor and laugh at me. :)

In other news, I now respond to "Alejandra" quicker than I respond to my actual name. This can be blamed on Gabbi who, if you haven't noticed, is my best ASMS friend. Aren't we precious?

Junior year? HA! No prob.... Well, kinda.

Hola! Long time, no see, eh?
Wow, referencing countries north and south of us in one line. I'm good :)

On to my point: I know people had said that Junior year could be stressful, especially here, but I don't think I actually believed that till recently. Now that college is actually on the horizon, it seems as though everyone is just worried about grades, test, and extra-curriculars! I can't say that I have not felt this pressure at least a bit. While going into Hell Week I have solid As in everything except for history, it has been a hassle all term maintaining that on top of being co-president of an amazing club. On top of all of the clubs that I am in and all of my time in helping in math lab, I have been one busy chica. Oh. And there are incoming students for us all to train and adjust to. They're not that bad, but they are still getting the hang of being away from home. And while I try to very patient and helpful for them, by the weekend it is very nice to have a lot of them off campus. I on the other hand have have not gone home nearly as much as last year.
The longer I am here, the more I consider this to be home, just without home cooked food. I do believe it is because I am better friends with the people here that I have know here for a year than I am with most of the people in Fairhope that I have known for so long. Not to say that there aren't people I wish I could see more often. I haven't seen my best friend in weeks, but we're both busy and still talk all the time.
If you any way desire to hear from me more regularly, *cough* Cheyenne *cough* then just remind me more regularly or follow me on my new Twitter if that floats your boat.
@MathGoddess
It is not conceited or cocky I promise!! It is what some of my incoming buddies have taken to calling me. :)

As for any ASMS updates:

A -Ber-y Good Day to you!!

So, yes, I understand that for the last month and a half I have failed at this. But in my defense, I do have multiple excuses. After I got home from Auburn, I was too busy packing and prepping to blog. Upon arriving at school, I discover that my ehternet won't work, and my iPad will not let me blog from it without doing all the HTML stuff by myself which I don't know how to do. But anyways, I am here now!

Since my last update, I have come back to school!! Yay!! Trust me, there is lots of excitement that I can not adequately describe to you. In fact, I have already stayed on campus on the weekends VOLUNTARILY!! Shocking, eh? :)

Upon arriving, I had to manipulate my schedule so that I could take AP physics B this year. I am the only junior currently taking physics, but I am doing quite well, so I am excited.

Then of course we had to get our books. I'm only taking 5 academics this term... This is what I got:

Grand, right?

Most of the incomings are remarkably cool. Some are mildly obnoxious, but hopefully that will start to wear off soon. My Newton girls are all amazing!! We've had lots of parties and bonding.
Our very first weekend involved a great sleepover!

That even included our AMAZING new RA, Tabby :)

Then last night was a hall wide painting party with Michael Jackson videos!

That concluded with this:

Yes, we are crazy. But it was so much fun, that I can not describe it. :)

Now for today's post's namesake: IT'S SEPTEMBER!!!
Happy -ber Months!!!!
Tis the best time of the year!! And I believe that I will have posted this before my father, so I WIN!! Muahahaha :)

Anyways guys, I am alive. Those of you that are no longer here can now see that most of us are alive as well. Hopefully this shall keep you content until I return, which I promise will be in the not-too-distant future!!
:D

WINNING!!

Riiise and shiiine and give God the glory, glory.... Oh, wait.... There's no one here to sing with me... nor are we all getting up together to have Mass.... sadness...
But it'll be okay because now we all have a bunch of new friends from the epically amazing weekend that we spent together!! Instead of trying to tell you about our weekend, I took pictures sporadically over the last few days to share.

First, we have the beautiful picture that I drew with Katherine on the way up to Atlanta. I was personally a little disappointed that we didn't have a princess coloring book, but we made do with what we had. Her amazing butterflies are to the right of my bird.

There was a radio in our cool hotel room. The four of us in this room wanted music as we got ready for bed. Apparently this is spot in the room where it is possible to not have static. So I held the antenna... and got laughed at for it... a lot.... :)

These cool kids were very popular on Saturday. I have no idea what they actually look like or which youth group they were with, but they were quite entertaining and very sweet. They posed for tons of pictures that day.... I can only imagine how hot they got that afternoon though....

This is the whole gang. It's blurry. But I'm sorry, I was on a moving bus. As a result of trying to obtain this picture, I fell, and our cool seminarian, Chris, had to catch me. But all is well now. When someone else puts up on of the actual group pictures, I shall borrow it and put it on here :)

I thought that this was really pretty on the way to the Ocoee. These really are the tiniest foothills of the mountain though.

Here is our super amazing priest that went with us. His name is Fr. Babu. He didn't really like to wear his priestly outfit if he didn't have to, so this is what he wore on the way home. Black socks pulled up nearly to his knees, athletic shorts, the cool shirt, and his nearly flat bill Nike hat, backwards. It was adorable. His notable lesson of the weekend: PEPSI. Enough said.
Me: Kellie, I thought you were the adrenaline junkie?
Kellie: Dude, it's Mary C. Rapids I can handle. Mary C I cannot.

After lots of encouragement, this is what Kellie finally managed. Yes, it was my brilliant idea. Mary C's own brother supplied the weapon. And there was moral support from everyone around. Unfortunately, once she woke up, she smelled sharpie and used her camera to what had happened.... kinda a bubble buster, but it was fun while it lasted! :)

Everyone from our church that wen with us got a bright blue survival bracelet that I made last week. We didn't have matching t-shirts, so this is what I did instead. Everyone enjoyed them. And they came in handy late at night when certain people didn't want to go to sleep because we could threaten them with the 8 feet of rope that we had around our wrists.
Cute and Practical :)

Of course lots more was important, but most it couldn't be photographed. Singing campfire songs while making s'mores. Swimming 3 rapids (not intentional....). Playing Ninja and the Animal Game. Mass every morning. Etc.

Overall, it was great. I was glad I went even though I had been a little hesitant since I didn't have very many really good friends going. But now I have even more good friends, so it all worked out. We were WINNING all weekend. :)

Busy, busy, busy!

Happy July!! We might as well count summer as over at this point; July always flies by so quickly!! We realized I only have one more week of actually being at home with all of the things left to do before headed back to campus.

This week I have been helping out with my church's Art Camp for our Jr. High kids. It has been so much, and I am greatly looking forward to my last day with them tomorrow. They are a really talented group of kids that I love to hang out with. Among the creation that I have contributed to thus far this week :
This first one is a giant mat that could be put in a kitchen laundry room or even outside. The fish are outlined in 3D paint by our spectacular local blind artist, Mr. Ricky. 3 kids and I painted it. The flag background was all their idea, and even though our is the most structured and least artsy of the five mats, I do believe that it is my favorite :)
I actually made this "mosaic" all by myself :) Technically this is before it was finished with the plaster. Mrs. Molly, our Jr. High youth leader, tried to say that patterns were not allowed, but I am far to math minded for that to work, so I just tried to make it look random!

On Friday I will be traveling to Atlanta with a bunch of my youth group friends to a huge Catholic youth conference. I'm excited, even though a few of my friends can't come. It promises to be a great weekend. Monday we'll drive over to Tennessee where we will go white water rafting which I am looking forward to quite a lot :) Just in case you would like to see what kind of madness I will be participating in, these are pictures from last year:
If anyone wants to take a guess at what kind of craziness we were up to, have at it :)
I took this from the bus as we approached mountains.... They're so pretty, but while I love to see them once in awhile, I'm definitely a beach girl. The water there is far to cold... I've already started to brace myself for getting dumped in the freezing river on Monday morning :)

After that adventure I will be spending some time up in Auburn with my aunt and her family. If I can avoid it, I shall not step foot on the campus of the university that is housed there. I will be doing lots of swimming so hopefully I can have a decent tan to end the summer.

I'm really sorry if I didn't have anything particularly entertaining today, but I did include pictures, so please forgive me. If I were you, I wouldn't expect to hear back from me till I am safely back in my dorm, but this year I am going to try very hard to include pictures every week so this wonderful site will look prettier :) till August, dear readers, au revoir! :)

Summer, home life, and music.... Oh my!

Once again,  I offer my sincerest apologies for neglecting to post anything in far too long. If only blogger would work the way I want it to on my iPad..... then I promise I would post all the time! But, I digress because there are more important things to account for. Here we go.

Summer. One of the very few words that can be the reason for joy in the hearts of children everywhere. At least, that's how it is until it actually IS summer. And sure, more little kids are probably still thrilled with sleeping late and playing all day, but even some of them can see through the illusion. Even my darling five year old brother is about ready to return to school to see his friends and have something to do! Honestly, I'm about bored to tears! Three months with no scheduled things to do? Whose awful idea is that? Personally, I am a HUGE fan of year round schooling and really hope that it comes to this part of the world soon, but in the mean time, I'm just sick of all this empty time! Don't get me wrong, the days that I get to spend hours on end playing Monopoly or sitting on the beach watching my best friend kiteboard are AMAZING!! But I think parents like to make up reasons why I should stay home... and do nothing... Except extra chores... and I'm sorry, but that just doesn't float my boat. It's always "Watch your brother" (even when they're not going anywhere either...) or "You always get sunburned, you can't go anymore" (even though that's only half true. most of the time I've fine, and if I do become slightly pink, I'm almost always fine by morning.). It's frustrating.... immensely  frustrating.... and exponentially more so every day.... (Anyone wanna graph my exponential frustration? :D)

Which brings me to home life. While at school, yes, I admit, I longed to come home after awhile, next year, I very well might not come home quite so much... After living away from parents for the majority of the time, being thrown back into a family with superior dictators (no, I don't feel bad saying that, my father regularly brags about being the dictator of the household) doesn't work. I am literally counting down the DAYS till I get to go back to school (45, in case you're wondering). And it's not that I don't like my parents, they're pretty good parents (not too strict, overbearing, or protective, but enough so), it's just that from August to May, I don't have anyone telling me what to do for the majority of the time. I don't abuse that privilege (anyone on campus could tell you that I am the last person they would expect to break any rules, I'm too busy tutoring kids, and going to band, or doing homework), but for it to be rudely torn away just doesn't work. I understand that for 17 more months, I am indeed a child, but I'm a pretty good kid. I'm responsible, and I always get stuff done. I really don't need two people constantly telling me what to do and requesting more slave labor. (Sorry, parents, but I'm just being honest...)

I don't have a handy segue for this one, but I must discuss music for a bit because music makes me happy and because I feel we need a nice note to end on.  While a lot of the current, popular "music" is hardly music at all, there are a lot of really amazing songs out there. There are plenty of genres, so everybody can find something. Heck, you can like tons of genres!! I fully believe that everybody should try branching out a little bit. I have so many different kinds of music, that it's a little bit ridiculous (I don't have any hard rock, screamo, or rap though.... those are all far too angry for my bubbly personality). There's alternative, children's music, Christian, country, electronic, folk, hip-hop, indie, jazz, pop, rock, soundtracks, and the always handy, "other" category. All of these are on my iPod, and I listen to all of them all the time. Some of it may sound silly. What business do I have listening to Disney music? It's amazing, that's my business. Some contemporary Christian music is pretty good; in fact, a lot of it isn't even obviously Christian and ends of being pretty mainstream. Country music (other than Taylor Swift) is a recent thing for me. I'm becoming very used to it since it's almost all my best friend listens to, and in the process I've realized it's not all bad. While some of it is all about how some dude's wife left and took his dog and now he's just drunk all the time, not all of it is, and I like it (much to the dismay of my family). The rest of it is just fun to listen to. I've always got something for every mood or situation. Lately, I've been in a Taylor Swift mood cause some of her songs are really catchy and fun even though she can't actually sing to save her life. But who knows, maybe by tomorrow it'll be Coldplay or Ladytron. Who knows? It probably will not be any the mainstream stuff though.

I'll stop now so that I don't bore you too excessively much. I hope that this will keep some of you satiated  for awhile so that I have time to find something else worth discussing. I'm thinking there may not be too much more till school starts, but I'll try. Till then, I bid you farewell, dearest readers.

AAAAAHH!!!!

I can't believe I forgot to post last week!!! I guess I was just super busy since last Wednesday is when I finished finals and moved out, officially concluding my sophomore year. I had so much planned to talk about!!
As an apology, allow me to provide a quick recap of what I was going to say.

I can't believe I survived my first year at ASMS!! It completely flew by!! It was a very eventful year, but I am looking forward to two more amazing years. Unfortunately these next two years won't be the same without my amazing seniors (Good luck in college!!) and those random people who have decided not to come back :(  We're losing a few great students, some of which I became very close to, and the ASMS class of 2013 will miss them dearly!

Moving on to this week, I have now been at home for a full week of summer. It has already been stressful having everyone at home all the time, but we're trying to get into the swing of things. I don't like not having my ASMS friends with me!!! I wish we could go back early and just hang out without having to go to class or have homework!!  Tomorrow the family is heading up to Auburn to celebrate my brother's 6th birthday. Immediately following I will have two busy weeks of VBS (one of prep work, one of actual VBS), then I will be heading up to be a counselor in training at the summer camp I used to go to for a week. Basically, June is busy. And once we hit July, summer shall fly by!

I hope everyone is having a safe break, make good choices, and HAVE FUN!!
Oh, and happy hurricane season!

P.S. I totally forgot about our happy thoughts so...
1. It's summer!!! Party!!! wooo!! :)

hmmm.... do we need anything else? :)
